The output is a real PDF, generated in your browser and downloaded to your machine. Not an image of an invoice, not a print-to-PDF of a web page — a proper document with selectable text, ready to email, print or attach to an accounting system.

There is no account, no free-trial countdown, and no watermark on the file. Quantities and prices accept decimals for hourly or part-unit billing, seventeen currencies are supported including USD, EUR, GBP and the Moroccan dirham, and you can add your own logo. The small "Made with everytoolai.com" line is one checkbox away from being removed before you download.

The reason none of that is paywalled is architectural rather than generous. The generator is static files on a CDN and the PDF is built on your device, so an extra invoice costs us nothing — there is no per-document server cost to recover. That is also why there is no upsell interrupting the work.

The order of operations matters on an invoice, because applying tax and discount in the wrong sequence changes the total. This one follows the standard order: line items are summed, the discount comes off that subtotal, and tax is charged on what remains.

Tax is charged on 1,404.00, not on 1,560.00 — that is the discount-before-tax rule, and it is what almost every jurisdiction expects. Applying the two the other way round would overstate the tax by 31.20 on this invoice.

Discounts can be a percentage or a fixed amount, and a fixed discount is capped at the subtotal so a total can never go negative. The tax label is yours to set — VAT, GST, sales tax — because what it is called is jurisdictional and the arithmetic is not.

Everything recalculates as you type, and the live preview shows the same figures the PDF will contain. There is no separate rendering path that could disagree with what you saw.

Nowhere. It is worth being concrete about what that means, because an invoice contains more than most people pause to consider.

It has your business name and address, and often your tax registration number. It has your client's name and address. It shows what you charge, what you charged this particular client, and what you are owed. Taken across a few invoices it is a fairly complete picture of who your customers are and what your business is worth — which is exactly the sort of thing you would not hand to an unknown third party if the question were put to you directly.

But the question is not usually put directly. The typical free invoice generator requires an account, stores your invoices on its servers, and builds a business on the resulting data — through ads, through upsells to a paid tier, or in some cases through the aggregate data itself. You are asked to sign up, not to consent to a transfer.

Here the PDF is assembled in your browser, and your logo is embedded from a data URL your device produced. No account exists because there is no server to hold one. Your draft is saved in this browser's local storage so a refresh does not lose your work, and it stays on this device — which also means clearing your browser data clears it, and it will not follow you to another machine.

As with every tool here, the claim is checkable rather than asserted: open the Network tab and generate an invoice, or load the page, disconnect from Wi-Fi, and generate one anyway. It still works.

This produces a standard commercial invoice, and standard is not the same as compliant everywhere. Most jurisdictions require a unique sequential invoice number, an issue date, and the seller's and buyer's details; many require your tax registration number when charging tax; some require specific wording for zero-rated, reverse-charge or cross-border supplies. Check what applies where you trade — this is general information, not tax advice.

A few practical habits reduce the chance of being paid late. Number invoices sequentially and never reuse a number, because your accountant and any audit will expect an unbroken series. State payment terms explicitly rather than relying on a convention the client may not share. Include the bank details or payment link in the invoice itself, not in the covering email, since the invoice is what gets forwarded to accounts payable.

For cross-border work, invoice in the currency you agreed and say which currency it is — an amount with a bare dollar sign is genuinely ambiguous across several markets. Finally, keep your own copy. The PDF downloads to your device and is not stored anywhere else, so your records are your responsibility — which is the trade you make for nobody else holding them.
